Adding New Experiences While Maintaining Contentment
I feel that one of the key points to keep in mind for a content life is to not constantly be in the pursuit of new experiences. Especially in today’s world where there are a plethora of options when it comes to travel as well as experiences such as wellness retreats. I think it is important to learn to be completely at peace with the simple, the mundane experiences of every day life – before adding on the excitement of travel and novelty.
It is easy for the mind to get lost in a frantic chase – the next best thing that will bring about pleasure and peace. We forget to appreciate every day life like our jobs and a comfortable bed to sleep in every night.
It is actually a tricky boat to ride. I don’t quite agree with completely giving up on new experiences. But it can be difficult to navigate the addictive quality that comes along with it. Constantly seeking the next best thing. Never feeling content, never feeling satisfied. It’s as if the only purpose in life is to accumulate more and more and more – but why? What is the root cause of the discontentment? Why does one person want so much? No amount of yoga and meditation can resolve this until it is addressed from the root. Why aren’t we happy just being?
Once this is addressed – we can move on to the next step of slowly adding more color and enjoying that as well. A new affirmation would be: “This is enough”. That way, the delta of the growth and unintegrated material in the subconscious mind remains small. With a small delta, disturbances naturally resolve themselves without us needing too much “help” from the outside world.
